Learning Path Overview
Each educator is responsible for providing their students with a quality education. In the Principles of English Learning—path level 100—we increased our knowledge of language proficiency, which allow us to provide equitable access to academic, professional, and personal opportunities for our students. This learning path builds upon previously learned skills to continue to build the capacity of educators to provide effective support for English Language Learners at any grade level, in any subject.

Building Academic Literacy for English Language Learners
Academic literacy is an integral skill for learner success. English Language Learners often experience barriers to developing the academic literacy required to align content area and language proficiency standard. In this course, participants will examine the role of academic literacy and its role in learner success before exploring strategies for supporting ELLs academic language development.

Community & Accessibility for English Language Learners and their Families
Family and guardian stakeholder involvement in a learners education have always been positively regarded for their positive impact on success. It is essential for the success of English Language Learners that their families be effectively engaged with and connected to the school community. It is therefore essential that efforts be made to ensure a welcoming and accessible wool community for our English Language Learners. In this course, participants will identify the needs of ELLs and their families and consider how a variety of strategies can be applied to effectively provide essential community and access to ELL families. Participants will develop a plan for how to establish positive relationships and support engagement with English learner families.

Creating a Culturally Responsive Classroom
In order to be effective learning environments, our classrooms must support the needs of all of our students and provide equity and a sense of belonging. Creating a culturally responsive classroom, one that honors the unique experiences, history and contributions of all of our students is an essential part of working toward learner success. In this course, participants will define cultural competency and examine the role it plays in creating classrooms where equity, compassion and respect are given to all students. Strategies for creating culturally responsive classrooms and instruction will be applied to both a variety of scenarios and your own practices.

Strategies for Engaging and Supporting English Language Learners in a Blended Environment
Virtual instruction is a highly adaptable form of instruction that can supplement, extend and substitute instruction in the physical classroom. While still a powerful tool for adaptation and flexibility, virtual instruction brings with it a series of considerations and potential areas of challenge for educators and learners alike. In this course, participants will explore and anticipate areas of potential challenge for ELLs in the virtual classroom before examining strategies for effectively supporting and engaging ELL students in virtual instruction.
